International Ataxia Awareness Day (IAAD) 2020

Yesterday was International Ataxia Awareness Day (IAAD). I never thought I would raise awareness for Ataxia, especially since I didn’t even know that word before 2013. Yet, ataxia is my reality. It is as much a part of my story as all of the wonderful things in my life. I made the choice to share my journey with Friedreich’s Ataxia with transparency and vulnerability in the name of awareness. I don’t need IAAD to be aware of ataxia, as I am aware of it every second of every day. But I appreciate the opportunity to share my story with you in the hopes that we can get that much closer to a cure! Take a moment to think about how your life would be different if your body was loosing coordination, dexterity, energy, and balance every single day. Take a moment to consider how your life would look with disability. And most importantly, take a moment to pray that we find a way to rid the world of ataxia!
