Disabled and Victorious!

I felt equal parts disabled and victorious today. I tackled Costco solo.

The carts at this Costco are really far away from the handicapped parking spaces. Normally, I just loop arms with my shopping buddy to get to the shopping cart. I can take steps here and there without assistance, but I can’t walk that far without help. So, I had to do something I’ve dreaded. I unloaded my walker, used it to walk to the carts, put my walker in the cart, walked back to the car, unloaded my walker, and then went into Costco to shop.

I am (once again) incredibly thankful for my walker. I am sad that my body is failing. I am sad that I can’t walk 200 yards unassisted. But, I am proud of myself for not letting that stop my independence.
